As stated earlier, the national average for public institutions is 33 per state. The national average for private not-for-profits is 31, and for private-for profits the average per state is 20.

In 2008, the national average for public two year institutions is $2,063 per academic year, while New Mexico averages $1,271 per academic year. The national average for public four-year institutions is $5,950 per academic year, while New Mexico averages $4,143 per academic year.

When it comes to private four-year institutions, New Mexico has $15,666 per academic year while the national average for private four-year institutions is $21,588.
