Student Services
The state of Colorado offers a variety of ways for students to find their place on campus, including on and off-campus housing programs and hundreds of student-sponsored organizations, major-specific clubs, honor societies, ethnic clubs, recreational activities, and Greek societies. Funded through our Student Organizations Finance Office, these clubs and organizations provide opportunities for students to make friends and pursue their interests-from hiking to honors, music to martial arts, swing dancing to snowboarding. There is always something to do on campus, so get out there and get involved.
Colorado provides a variety of services to assist students as they progress in their collegiate careers—from comprehensive academic support such as tutoring and study skills training; to conflict resolution and counseling services; to off-campus housing, financial aid, and career placement assistance. Our comprehensive student-specific services are designed to help students meet the challenges of a rigorous university experience, enabling them to reach their fullest potential and to prepare for successful lives after they graduate. Also, Colorado ranks 20 in the best-educated states. Eighty-one institutions throughout the state have signed a participation agreement with the U.S. Department of Education to participate in the IV federal financial-aid programs.

These figures combined mean, the state of Colorado produces an average of 61,659 degree-holders per completions component (i.e. July 1, 2007 June 30, 2008), while the national average is 68,322 total degrees awarded per completions component.
Colorado’s more than 800,000 students are enrolled at the State’s:
- 28 public institutions
- 13 private, not-for-profit schools
- 40 private, for profit schools
Of these 81 public and private institutions, 47 are four year-colleges and universities (the national average is 52 per state), 34 are two year institutions (the national average for two-year institutions is 32 per state). The national average for public institutions is 33 per state. The national average for private not-for-profits is 31 per state and for private for-profits the average per state is 31.
Colorado has top quality methods in teaching for public institutions and private institutions. The national average for public two-year institutions is $2,063 per academic year, while Colorado averages $2,076 per academic year. For public four-year institutions the national average amounts to $5,950 per academic year and Colorado averages to $5,250 per academic year. While the national average for private four-year institutions is at $21,588 per academic year, Colorado averages $19,879 per academic year.
